One sure way that we can help you find out if you are pregnant and then determine approximately how far along you are is through a limited ultrasound. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves which "bounce" off of the baby and produce a picture on a screen of the pre-born child moving around in the uterus (womb).

With ultrasound, the gestational sac can be seen as early as four and one-half weeks. The tiny embryo can be observed and measured by five and one-half weeks. We prefer to do ultrasounds at six weeks. At this point, we can tell if the pregnancy is viable (a heartbeat can be detected) and able to continue on its natural course. Using measurement, we can estimate how many weeks old the baby is.

If you are considering abortion, it is important that you first have an ultrasound. Approximately 25 to 30 percent of all positive pregnancy tests turn out not to be viable pregnancies and will end in miscarriage. An ultrasound at six weeks can verify an established pregnancy by showing the baby is firmly implanted within the uterus. Some fertilized eggs never make it out of the fallopian tubes, and can cause the tube to rupture as it grows larger. This is called an ectopic or tubal pregnancy. An ultrasound can also evaluate you for this dangerous condition so that you can seek immediate medical attention.

Our highly trained and experienced medical staff will be glad to provide you with a free, confidential ultrasound. You will receive accurate information on your pregnancy status, enabling you to make an informed decision.
