Some women recognize that they are not ready to be a parent and see abortion as their only alternative. Studies, which were published in a 1982 issue of the Canadian Journal of Public Health, indicated that 1 in 24 women, who choose abortion, experienced immediate medical complications such as severe bleeding, infection and perforation of the uterus.  Studies have linked pregnancy loss to an increase in grief reactions, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. A 2002 study published in the Journal of Child Psychiatry and Psychology found that children whose mothers had a history of abortion tended to have less supportive home environments and more behavioral difficulties. Adoption offers a positive alternative to abortion and has an unintended outcome: mothers take better care of their health during pregnancy.

The fact is that abortion does cause hurt and emotional pain to women and it is important to keep in mind that a woman who has experienced an abortion walk in guilt, shame and the fear of ridicule and criticism every day of her life.  However, in order to begin the healing process it is vital for you to understand that care and acceptance awaits you at the North Baton Rouge Women’s Help Center.  Call 225-359-9001 now to begin your healing process.
